Project

MACASTAB is a pioneering project in the study of the specific conditions fom the natural environment of the 4 archipelagos wich form the Macaronesia, all of them with volcanic origin, in the aim of reducing the risks of instabilities on slopes, providing solutions for the stabilization design, control and prevention measures.

Rock falls and landslides involve significant economic costs, and even cause the loss of human lives, affecting roads and other infrastructure, as buildings, coastal areas and beaches, access to national areas and protected areas of high environmental value, etc.

This natural risk also has consequences both in the population and in the development of activities related to tourism, which is why it is particularly relevant in all this islands, especially in the most populated.

Given the characteristics of volcanic projects, it is an original and unprecedented project that combines scientific knowledge with the most advanced technological applications in this field, translating into an improvement in the management of geological risks and the safety of infrastructure, optimizing both project and maintenance costs. And also providing solutions for the protection of the environment and for the safety of the population in vulnerable areas.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: “Bases to elaborate a methodological guide to the management of natural risk of instability of volcanic slopes in the Macaronesia”

ACRONYM: MACASTAB
