Background

Hillside movements are phenomena that constitute one of the most important natural risks which affect the volcanic archipelagos of Macaronesia affecting them with a frequency much more intense than they do in the continental territory. They consist of the downward mobilization of a soil mass, debris and / or rock, driven by intense gravitational forces. In these phenomena a great number of conditioning and triggering factors, typologies and mechanisms of rupture, typical of volcanic archipelagos, are involved, which must be specified, defined and classified in order to successfully address this problem and adopt the appropriate measures to reduce as much as possible the risks to society.
